Top 3 Signs Your Body is Crying for Help

The human body is an incredible, miraculous machine—and one that, if you’re paying attention, will tell you when some part or system isn’t working properly. Unfortunately, many of us are so busy going through our daily routines that we overlook or ignore the emergency flares our bodies send up when something isn’t quite right. Unless it’s a broken bone or a loss of consciousness, we power through…even when those subtle alerts can be the key to staving off more serious health complications.

Here are the top 3 ways your body may be trying to get your attention.

You Can’t Sleep Through the Night

It happens to all of us on occasion—randomly waking up in the middle of the night and struggling to get back to sleep. But if this becomes a regular occurrence, your body may be trying to tell you something.

There are dozens of reasons why your sleep gets disrupted. Stress and anxiety can be a source, and women in their 40’s and 50’s often experience a disruption in sleep as they move through menopause.

Waking up in the middle of the night can also indicate your body is low in magnesium or experiencing a drop in blood sugar.

Your Energy is Nonexistent

If you’re having trouble sleeping, it stands to reason you’d find your energy reserves depleted during the day, but if you are getting 7 – 8 uninterrupted hours of sleep and still find yourself exhausted during the day, it’s time to listen to what your body is telling you.

Exhaustion that keeps you from enjoying your everyday life isn’t normal and can be caused by stress, depression, poor sleep, or be a sign of an underlying medical condition like fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome.

You may also want to take an honest look at your diet as it is possible you are low on essential nutrients.

You’re Experiencing Digestive Issues

If you find yourself struggling with chronic belly bloat and the thought of zipping a pair of jeans fills you with dread, your body may be sending out an alert.

Belly bloat is often synonymous with digestive issues. Think about your recent diet choices—have you been eating an unusual amount of fast food? Consuming foods high in gluten? Enjoying a diet that is lacking in nutrient-dense greens and vegetables?

It’s easy to get our delicate gut biome off track by eating poor quality food. Consider nurturing your body with nutrient-rich foods and taking pro- and prebiotics to get your gut in proper working order.

Listening to our bodies doesn’t come naturally to everyone. Like any relationship, it requires sacrifice on our part and a willingness to really listen. Pay attention when things in your body feel “off”—even if you can’t place your finger on exactly what that is.

And don’t hesitate to talk to your primary care doctor if your body is sending out warning signs. The sooner you answer your body’s cry for help, the faster you can start healing this amazing machine that serves you so well.
